REA is working with BCA Consultants and Asociación de Residentes de La Margarita, Inc. to explore new possibilities for a former rail corridor in Puerto Rico. Supported by EPA funding, the project combines an environmental assessment with a trail master plan focused on creating a connected, accessible network that links neighborhoods, destinations, and community assets.
During a recent site visit, REA staff mapped potential routes and destinations while meeting with residents to better understand how the corridor could serve the community. At a public meeting, community members shared ideas for preferred trail routes, access points, and destinations, including opportunities to create a loop around Salinas and connections to Salinas Speedway and Salinas Beach.
The community’s input will help shape a trail network that builds on the corridor’s existing potential while creating new opportunities for connectivity, recreation, and access to the surrounding landscape.
